The stealth frigate INS Mahendragiri was formally commissioned into the Indian Navy

The advanced stealth frigate INS Mahendragiri was formally commissioned into the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet on July 11, 2026, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. 
Built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai, it is the sixth and final ship of the Project 17A indigenous series.

Features and Build Details :

  • Project 17A: Sixth and final Nilgiri-class stealth guided-missile frigate.
  • Dimensions: 149 meters long with a displacement of 6,670 tonnes.
  • Indigenous Content: Over 75% local manufacturing, supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat goal.
  • Name Origin: Named after the Mahendragiri mountain range in the Eastern Ghats.
